Buy This: Dark, New Tale from menton3

Halloween draws nearer and the comic industry knows it. In this week's "Buy This" we're spotlighting Chicago-native menton3's newest work titled "The Memory Collector," which is just what the spooky season called for.

In typical menton3 style, the book is beautifully illustrated. He once again shows that comics do not have to be constrained to the traditional pencil-ink-color method of illustration and that the fine art of painting has a place right here on comic shop shelves.

In addition to illustrating the book, menton3 also wrote the story which follows three women who have found themselves responsible of hunting down unearthly entities who feed off of memories. What is especially compelling is that menton3 at times breaks into prose storytelling, rather than sticking to conventional comic book storytelling, adding a slight level of sophistication.

If you're a fan of menton3's Monocyte or Transfusion, or a fan of his artwork, the first issue to this 3 part series is a definite buy.

Buy This: New All-ages Book by Neil Gaiman

Cheers, readers! Starting this week today, we will be spotlighting a book every Tuesday, one that we think would be worth the purchase. Read on below the cut to see for yourself!

This week's spotlight is a new all-ages book by the bestselling author Neil Gaiman who has written several other works for children in addition to comics, novels and episodes of Doctor Who. The book, entitled Fortunately, the Milk, is a relatively short story that revolves around a father's journey to fetch milk for his tea and for his children's cereal.

Doesn't sound interesting? Well, just wait.

Upon purchasing the milk, the father comes into contact with a myriad of obstacles, turning his simple shopping trip into something that rivals Homer's Odyssey. First, he is abducted by aliens. Then, he runs into pirates! He even does some time-travelling in a hot-air balloon time machine (or as the captain of the balloon calls it, a "Floaty-Ball-Person-Carrier")! And it only gets crazier from there!

The whimsical story is strengthened even more with the inclusion of illustrations by Skottie Young, artist on Marvel's Oz series of comics. Together, both the story and the pictures create a tale full of wonder, excitement and imagination that will delight children, as well as adults, for a long while.
